Hannah's Co-op Takeaway's

I started as a co-op student with SEED in September and I have had such an incredible experience working with everyone. Over these past four months I have had the pleasure of working with the amazing Skills2SucSeed and YEP teams and have been able to see their positive impacts on the youth in their communities. I have learned so much about the nonprofit sector and employability. I have been inspired to try and help marginalized communities in my future career.

There are many struggles that young people in care face and it has been really inspiring to see a team that is so dedicated to removing some of those barriers. It is hard for youth, no matter their circumstances, to get into the workforce so the support that the Youth Employability Program and Skills2SucSeed provide are invaluable for these young people who are just starting their careers. Since S2S is virtual and YEP is an outreach program, they are able to reach a lot of young people throughout Nova Scotia. I have realized the importance of accessibility when it comes to giving youth resources, everyone has different abilities and are in different stages of life so they have different needs when it comes to resources.

Working with SEED as a co-op student has really helped develop my confidence while helping facilitate the weekly workshops for S2S. I think that my favorite part of working with SEED has been getting to know the youth in the program and seeing them grow throughout the course of this cohort.  It has also been great that I have gotten to apply the skills that I have learned in school into my daily life at work, it makes it easier to learn and grasp those skills. I feel that I have gained a good understanding of what SEED does and how they  operate and I believe that this opportunity will help me navigate my future career path. Being part of a co-op program is so beneficial to be able to see what you want to do with your career or potentially discover what you don’t want to do. I will use what I have learned working at SEED in my future career and for that I am grateful to have had this opportunity.
