Cohort 12 Starts October 2026!

Skills2SucSEED (S2S) is a virtual program spanning all of Nova Scotia for youth connected to or at risk of being connected to social assistance and child welfare systems. S2S supports participants in developing digital literacy, wellness, and pre-employability skills through group workshops and individual sessions where they are incentivized to attend and participate.

The workshops are developed by the facilitators who create content that is interesting and relevant to the participants based on the program topics. They use a variety of techniques to deliver this information, including guest speakers, games and activities.

What Being In The Program Looks Like

3 Phases

Phases 1 & 2 consist of 2-hour virtual workshops twice a week to enhance employability skills. They also include self-reflections and one-on-one meetings once a week with an S2S facilitator. Each of these phases lasts 6 weeks.

Phase 3 is the in-person work placement. Staff will work with participants to find work in the area of their interest. This placement lasts up to 8 weeks.

Each phase must be completed before youth can move onto the next one.

Paid to Participate

Stipend money is provided to youth for participating in the virtual workshops, attending one-on-one sessions and completing the weekly self-reflection.

Phase 1 & 2 are paid by stipends which increases in phase 2.

Youth are paid minimum wage in phase 3.

Incentives Awarded

Youth are encouraged to participate in the workshops in order to gain incentives.

Youth can also choose to work through additional challenges in BlueRabbit, a gamified engagement platform, on their own time. Each challenge possesses a varying degree of difficulty and youth get the opportunity to work towards real-world prizes.

EMPLOYER TESTIMONIALS

"It has been rewarding to provide a professional environment where youth can bridge the gap between theory and the real-world workforce. The student was notably proactive and responsible, taking ownership of tasks without needing constant over-the-shoulder management"

- Employer

”We had an overall good experience with Skills 2 SucSEED, with finding the right fit for our organization, to the follow up meetings and ease of the payroll submissions.  We would consider hosting in the future, it was a positive experience and we are happy and grateful that our organization could be part of this program. I think this is a great program and the aim to assist students with any form of disability to get a small start in the workplace, is so needed. You're doing a great job!”

-Employer

"I enjoyed the learning aspect, I thought I had a pretty good grasp on working and things surrounding it, but after this program I feel 10x more confident.  I learned many things, one example is how to spend /save money accordingly! My placement was very sweet and accommodating, I felt safe, understood, respected and cared for. It was a great job experience and I hope more youth get to experience what I luckily got to.”

- Youth

“(The youth) had very little self worth and confidence in his abilities to be employed. He had a few unsuccessful jobs and had given up. During Skills 2 SucSEED we all saw such a difference in him. It was like a light had turned on inside of him. He beamed. During his work placement he thrived!! He developed relationships, learned new skills, built his confidence up and looked forward to going to work. We are hoping to keep that momentum going and he's looking for other jobs. He feels good having this experience on his resume and has a positive outlook on his job prospects. Thank you so much!!!”

- Youth Worker

“S2S was and will continue to be an extremely beneficial aspect to my life. The program helped me, and will continue to help me. Skills 2 Succeed taught me how to work hard, and that I am capable of anything if I put my mind to it. It showed me that opportunities could become more than just things that I wanted to achieve, but rather things that I could achieve. For me, it was the confidence booster that I needed, to simply believe in myself a little more.  A lot of the time opportunities are right in front of you, and it is just a matter of striving to reach them. Sometimes, all you need is a little push forward to get you going in the right direction and then you can strive, and do anything that you believe you can do.  The people that I have worked with in this program have helped me in many different ways, and I would never be able to thank them enough. It was a very informational and educational experience for me, and it taught me a lot about life skills that everyone needs to thrive in society. I will be forever grateful for the opportunities that this program has provided to me.”

- Youth

“I would rate this experience as a 5 because our student showed amazing initiative. She worked well with her coworkers and she asked questions if needed. She was very helpful and was very respectful and kind to the residents.”

-Employer

"We think this program is an asset to the youth and to the companies involved. It is a well structured program. The program was in constant contact with weekly messages to ask how progress was going, they also dropped in to see if we had any concerns and made themselves available for any questions or concerns we might have had about anything. We would 100% participate again (this was our third time). Our participant was kind to staff and guests and worked hard, we loved having her."

YOUTH TESTIMONIALS

"During my short time with Seed I've learned a lot. I've learned valuable job skills, people skills, and money management skills. I also enjoyed the fun games and challenges which took place as well, which made for a great environment. I really enjoyed my time in the program and I'm sure anyone who decides to join in the future will feel the same way ."

- Youth

“Skills2sucseed is a great program and I highly suggest it, especially if you’re looking for some job experience or opportunity’s. You can tell them your preferences on where you would like or not like to work, or even tell them a specific place you would like to work and they can try to make it happen! My experience is that I loved the program because it teaches you everything you need to know, and loved my job placement as well! They're great people to talk to, ask questions and teach you things, so don’t hesitate to join, you won’t regret it.”

- Youth

“If I had to describe my experience with the SEED program, I’d tell you about how good the workshop environments are, and how they offer a way for me to improve my social skills along with my presentation skills. I would tell you how thankful and excited I am about the fact that this program has given me an opportunity to get a first job while helping me to feel prepared for it, and that doesn’t just mean the workshops, as I’ve found some of my individual sessions to be even more helpful as its a one-on-one experience with someone who wants to help you improve. For example, I spent a lot of individual time getting help deciding what to say in an interview, brainstorming how I might answer certain questions and getting to actually practice. I’d recommend the program to anyone who feels that they could get better at their employability skills, as it is a great way to practice interaction, critical thinking, and sociability, all while learning about different genuinely important topics.”
