Title: British Store Wholesale/ General Assistant

Location: Halifax, NS

Job Description

The Great British Shop is looking for a reliable, hands-on and versatile team member to help across several areas of our shop, bakery, wholesale and online order operations.

This is not a one-station job. Some days you’ll be packing wholesale bakery orders. Other days you’ll be picking and packing online grocery orders going across Canada. You may also help receive stock, clean work areas, support the bakery team or assist in the shop when needed.

We’re looking for someone practical, accurate, physically comfortable with a busy workplace and happy to jump in wherever help is needed.

Main Responsibilities

Wholesale bakery packing

You’ll help prepare our British-style baked goods for wholesale customers across Nova Scotia. This includes:

  • Labelling products accurately

  • Dating products correctly

  • Checking quality, appearance and freshness before items leave the building

This includes:

  • Picking products accurately from order lists

  • Packing fragile items such as glass jars, biscuits, crisps and grocery products

  • Wrapping parcels carefully so they can handle shipping

  • Checking orders for accuracy before they leave

  • Helping keep the online order area clean, stocked and organised

A big part of this role is caring about the customer opening the box at the other end.

Receiving and stock support

You may also help receive grocery deliveries and get products onto the shelves or into storage.

This can include:

  • Helping unload and move grocery stock

  • Checking deliveries against invoices or packing slips

  • Organising stock quickly and accurately

  • Restocking shelves and storage areas

  • Keeping products tidy and easy to find

This is a physically active role involving standing, bending, lifting, carrying and moving stock during the day.

  • Sweeping and mopping

  • Sanitising surfaces, handles and work areas

  • Cleaning trays, tables and packing areas

  • Keeping storage and packing areas organised

The Right Person

This role would suit someone who is:

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Physically comfortable in a busy, hands-on workplace

  • Accurate when packing, labelling and checking orders

  • Happy doing varied tasks rather than one fixed job all day

  • Able to work quickly without being careless

  • Clean, organised and aware of food safety

  • Comfortable working around baked goods, groceries and wholesale orders

  • Willing to help wherever needed
