Skills2SucSEED (S2S) is a virtual program spanning all of Nova Scotia for youth connected to or at risk of being connected to social assistance and child welfare systems. S2S supports participants in developing digital literacy, wellness, and pre-employability skills through group workshops and individual sessions where they are incentivized to attend and participate.

The workshops are developed by the facilitators who create content that is interesting and relevant to the participants based on the program topics. They use a variety of techniques to deliver this information, including guest speakers, games and activities.

“Going into care was so scary. I didn’t know how to handle things! So much changed when I was accepted into seed. Finally, something good happened in my life and I felt hope. It encouraged me. Getting the chance to participate in an amazing experience was truly a wonderful process. I grew so much. I learn how to communicate better. I learned about savings. Most importantly, I learned about myself and who I am! It was such a welcome environment with so many unique people and two amazing leaders. They helped through any challenges I came across these past 20 weeks! Both leaders were so patient, kind and understanding- they were another support system added to my list!  It’s so nice to see that people are on our side and willing to help us when sometimes we feel like we have no one! I’ll remember this experience for a lifetime. - Thank you so much, Elle and Michelle, you have truly in your own way, saved a part of me. You gave me determination and showed me I can do all sorts of things! I will forever remember both of you and how much you helped me.”

"During my short time with Seed I've learned a lot. I've learned valuable job skills, people skills, and money management skills. I also enjoyed the fun games and challenges which took place as well, which made for a great environment. I really enjoyed my time in the program and I'm sure anyone who decides to join in the future will feel the same way ."

I enjoyed the learning aspect, I thought I had a pretty good grasp on working and things surrounding it, but after this program I feel 10x more confident.  I learned many things, one example is how to spend /save money accordingly! My placement was very sweet and accommodating, I felt safe, understood, respected and cared for. It was a great job experience and I hope more youth get to experience what I luckily got to

“I loved the program, I thought it was really fun and great. It was cool to get gift cards and money, but I loved all the things we went over such as how to make a resume, cover letter, and so much more. The computer is awesome, everything was awesome, it was easy to log on, and it was all fun. I hope you enjoy the program as much as I did.”

Skills2sucseed is a great program and I highly suggest it, especially if you’re looking for some job experience or opportunity’s. You can tell them your preferences on where you would like or not like to work, or even tell them a specific place you would like to work and they can try to make it happen! My experience is that I loved the program because it teaches you everything you need to know, and loved my job placement as well! They're great people to talk to, ask questions and teach you things, so don’t hesitate to join, you won’t regret it

“S2S was and will continue to be an extremely beneficial aspect to my life. The program helped me, and will continue to help me. Skills 2 Succeed taught me how to work hard, and that I am capable of anything if I put my mind to it. It showed me that opportunities could become more than just things that I wanted to achieve, but rather things that I could achieve. For me, it was the confidence booster that I needed, to simply believe in myself a little more.  A lot of the time opportunities are right in front of you, and it is just a matter of striving to reach them. Sometimes, all you need is a little push forward to get you going in the right direction and then you can strive, and do anything that you believe you can do.  The people that I have worked with in this program have helped me in many different ways, and I would never be able to thank them enough. It was a very informational and educational experience for me, and it taught me a lot about life skills that everyone needs to thrive in society. I will be forever grateful for the opportunities that this program has provided to me.”

“(The youth) had very little self worth and confidence in his abilities to be employed. He had a few unsuccessful jobs and had given up. During Skills 2 SucSEED we all saw such a difference in him. It was like a light had turned on inside of him. He beamed. During his work placement he thrived!! He developed relationships, learned new skills, built his confidence up and looked forward to going to work. We are hoping to keep that momentum going and he's looking for other jobs. He feels good having this experience on his resume and has a positive outlook on his job prospects. Thank you so much!!!”

“I was super excited about the program when I first found out about it. In the intake call I found out that I would get paid for it like a job, and that l would be sent a Chromebook that I would be able to keep, which was a huge bonus. I would love the program so much even if I didn't get paid for it. It's been an amazing opportunity for me, and I'm really looking forward to my very first job placement. Thank you guys for making it fun with all the fun and games.

I would rate this experience as a 5 because our student showed amazing initiative. She worked well with her coworkers and she asked questions if needed. She was very helpful and was very respectful and kind to the residents
