I Don’t Know What I Want To Do Yet! Now What?

If you’ve ever felt stressed because everyone around you seems to have their “dream job” figured out already, you’re not alone!

The truth is a lot of people don’t know what they want to do right away, and that’s okay! In fact, experts say that people change careers an average of 3 or more times during their lifetime. Even adults are still figuring it out as they go! Your first job will probably not be your forever job, and it doesn’t need to be.

So How Do You Figure It Out?

Rather than worrying about finding the perfect job, start by exploring your interests, what you’re curious about, and discovering what you don’t like. Every experience can help you find something you are interested in!

Here are a few easy ways to start:

Try Volunteering – Volunteering is a great way to test out different environments, meet new people, and build your confidence. Plus, it looks great on a resume!

Take a Free Career Quiz – Career quizzes can help you discover jobs that match your interests, skills, and personality.

Some Free Options Include:

-          Government of Canada Career Quiz

-          NSCC Career Quiz

-          Coursera Career Quiz

Explore Workshops & Career Programs - Trying something hands-on can help you discover interests that you didn’t even know you had!

              Check Out:

-          Nova Scotia Works for career support, workshops, and job help.

-          ExploreTradeNS to learn more about skilled trades and apprenticeships. They even offer Youth Skilled Trade Camps to explore different career options!

Remember! You do NOT need to have your whole future planned out right now. Every job, volunteer experience, new skill, or workshop can help you learn more about yourself and what interests you. Sometimes figuring out what you want simply starts with trying something new.
